It’s not uncommon for the breasts to sag or droop with age. Pregnancy and genetics may also cause the breasts to lose their shape and firmness. Breast lift surgery restores them to a youthful position and shape. Dr. Mark Prysi has been voted “Best Plastic Surgeon in Southwest Florida” six years in a row by Naples Daily News and named one of the “Best Plastic Surgeons in America” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America. He has many years of experience with breast lift surgery and can help your breasts look younger and perkier.
Breast Lift Candidates
If you are considering breast lift surgery, Dr. Prysi will want to meet with you to evaluate you for surgery. You should be in good physical and psychological health, with realistic and specific expectations of plastic surgery, and free of any chronic medical conditions which could impact your recovery. The timing of your breast lift is important; if you are planning to have children in the future, Dr. Prysi recommends you postpone your breast lift surgery. Pregnancy and breast-feeding can reverse the results of breast lift surgery. Breast lift can be performed on its own, or may be combined with breast augmentation surgery or a complete mommy makeover.
The Breast Lift Procedure
Breast lift is an outpatient procedure that takes several hours and is performed under anesthesia, so you won’t feel anything during surgery. Dr. Prysi begins by making the breast lift incisions in one of several possible patterns:
- Circumferentially around the areola
- Around the areola and extending vertically down to the breast crease
- Around the areola, extending vertically down to the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease
Through the incisions, Dr. Prysi lifts and reshapes the underlying breast tissue; this improves the contour and firmness of the breasts. He repositions the nipple and areola higher on the breast, and may reduce the size of the areola. Dr. Prysi then removes excess skin to compensate for loss in skin elasticity, and tightens the remaining skin. Finally, he closes the incisions with sutures. An elastic bandage may be placed to help the tissues conform to their new contours.
Recovering from Breast Lift
After breast lift, it’s normal for your breasts to feel sore, swollen and tender. You will need to rest as much as possible in the days following your surgery, and refrain from bending, lifting and straining. Dr. Prysi and his team will go over post-surgical instructions in detail with you, and make themselves available after your surgery to answer any questions you may have.
