Is a Thigh Lift Right for Me?
Pregnancy, aging, and significant weight loss can leave you with excess skin on your thighs, leading to a flabby appearance or sagging skin that is a dimpled. A thighplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes this excess skin and improves the appearance of the thighs. During a thigh lift (thighplasty) our thighs will be contoured to help them look slimmer and make them more in proportion with the rest of your body.
Thighplasty is not a weight loss tool, and it is important to see if you are a candidate for a thigh lift during a consultation. It is usually the right solution for a person who feels unhappy with the way their thighs look and is close to their ideal weight. Dr. Mark Prysi is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in helping women attain and retain the body they desire.
The Benefits of a Thigh Lift
Excess fat and sagging skin will be removed from the thighs during this procedure, which will leave you with more shapely and firmer legs. Liposuction can also be used during the procedure to remove excess fat deposits. This ensures that the resulting contour is smooth.
The Thighplasty Procedure
A thigh lift is typically an outpatient procedure. General anesthesia will be used. The incision pattern will vary based on the type of thigh lift a person will use. The three types of thigh lift procedures that are commonly used include an inner thigh lift, medial thigh lift, and bilateral thigh lift.
In most cases, an incision is made that goes from the groin area down toward the knee on the inner part of the leg. Excess skin is typically removed, however both excess skin and fat can be addressed. If necessary, liposuction is used to remove unwanted fat deposits. The surgeon will reshape and tighten underlying tissue and may tighten or tie loose muscles.
Toward the end of the thigh lift surgery, the remaining skin will be lifted and smoothed. Sutures will be put in place to keep the incision closed. Thigh lift surgery takes about two hours.
Recovering after a Thigh Lift
After getting a thigh lift, you should expect soreness, swelling, and bruising near the incision site. Loose shorts or pants are typically worn in order to promote healing of the thigh lift scars. Depending on the techniques used during your procedure, a drain may be put in place in order to reduce the risk of a thigh lift infection and allow excess fluid to be collected.
Pain medications are usually used after the surgery to help you feel comfortable. The sutures will be removed about two weeks after the procedure.
Showering is usually possible 24 hours after the procedure. An individual should not take a bath, use a hot tub, or go swimming for 6 weeks post-surgery. Most individuals can get back to work seven to ten days after the surgery. Other normal physical activities can usually be resumed four to six weeks after the surgery.
