QUICK LINKS
Breast augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States, and it is especially popular in beach climates like Naples. Dr. Mark Prysi has been enhancing breasts in Southwest Florida for many years and has a superb reputation within the plastic surgery community. He is particularly adept at endoscopic breast augmentation, in which he utilizes special technology to see the patient’s internal structures through smaller surgical incisions. The endoscopic approach is advantageous to patients who are concerned about incisional scarring on the breasts. Dr. Prysi uses computer imaging which allows you to visualize the possible results of a variety of implant shapes and sizes before surgery. It is Dr Prysi’s artistry that sets him apart. During surgery, he uses implant sizers to ensure your desired size, shape, and overall look is attained. Dr. Prysi also reduces the possibility of infection with a “no-touch” technique by inserting all endoscopically placed implants with the Keller Funnel, which also minimizes the necessary incisions. Dr. Prysi is known for his natural-appearing results with minimal, hidden incisions that enhance your results both in and out of clothing. Dr. Prysi is the only Southwest Florida Plastic Surgeon who has completed an additional breast surgery fellowship after his plastic surgery training.
Candidates for Breast Augmentation
You may be a candidate for breast augmentation in Naples if you have small, asymmetrical breasts or breasts that are out of proportion with the rest of your figure. Dr. Prysi will work closely with you to ensure that the procedure is right for you and will meet your needs.
Making Decisions about Breast Augmentation
You will need to make several decisions with Dr. Prysi before your breast augmentation surgery. During the decision-making process and throughout your entire experience, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Prysi will treat you with respect and compassion while listening carefully to your cosmetic goals and expectations of surgery.
First, you will need to decide which type of breast implants are best suited for your body and your cosmetic goals: saline or silicone implants. Saline implants are composed of a saltwater solution and filled after the shell has been placed, causing them to require a smaller incision. The disadvantages of saline implants are that they can be more palpable and cause rippling especially in a thin person. Silicone implants are filled with “Cohesive” silicone which has the consistency of Jell-O. Silicone implants tend to feel like natural breast tissue. Fifteen years of FDA research studies clearly show no link between smooth-walled silicone implants and any type of disease.
Round implants are usually preferred because they provide superior breast fullness and do not risk the malrotation that occurs with shaped implants. In addition, shaped or anatomical implants have much thicker silicone as well as a textured surface; both of which can give a more firm feel to the breast. They are best reserved for breast reconstruction cases and special situations, such as when a patient desires a conservative augmentation with less upper breast fullness.
There are three types of implant profiles: moderate (low), moderate plus (medium), and high (high). Dr. Prysi chooses the profile depending on the patient’s desired size and chest width. Dr. Prysi typically uses moderate plus because it gives the best combination of projection and width, which gives a more defined cleavage. For patients with a very narrow chest or who desire a large cup size, the high profile is usually best.
Dr. Prysi uses the low profile in patients, typically models, who desire a small augmentation but require the extra width to avoid cleavage separation. You will need to decide whether your implants will be placed above or beneath your pectoral muscle. Implants placed beneath the chest muscle tend to feel more natural, reduce the chance for capsular contracture (breast firmness), cause less rippling, and reduce the occurrence of post-operative breast sagging.
You and Dr. Prysi will also need to determine where your breast implant incisions will be placed. Implants are placed through incisions either around the areola, beneath the breast crease, or through the armpit (endoscopic technique).
The Breast Augmentation Procedure in Naples
Breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure that takes about two hours. Anesthesia is administered so you will not feel any pain during surgery. To begin, Dr. Prysi makes an incision in the pre-determined location. Through the incision, he creates a small pocket for the implants. He positions the implants in their pockets and closes the incisions with sutures. Dr. Prysi may also place a support garment around your breasts to help them heal. Breast augmentation in Naples can be performed on its own or may be combined with other procedures such as a breast lift or mommy makeover.
The Procedure
Breast augmentation can be done using saline or silicone breast implants. Saline breast implants are made with a silicone shell filled with a sterile saline solution. Silicone implants are made with a silicone shell filled with a silicone gel. There are also three incision patterns that can be used to perform a breast augmentation. These include:
- The Periareolar Incision: Created around the nipple-areola.
- The Inframammary Incision: Created in the breast crease.
- The Transaxillary Incision: Created in the armpit area.
The type of breast implant and incision will depend on your individual aesthetic goals, anatomy, and the surgeon’s recommendation.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
After surgery, it will be very important that you follow the directions Dr. Prysi gives you very closely. By being diligent with your recovery, you can ensure a positive result. Depending on the extent of your surgery, your recovery may be more or less extensive. In most cases, you will be instructed to wear a compression garment or surgical bra to help with healing and swelling. If your case is more extensive, you may have drains in place to help with the collection of fluid to avoid uncomfortable pressure. Any bandages and drains will be removed for you by Dr. Prysi at a post-operative appointment when you are ready.
Results
Following breast augmentation, you will be wrapped in gauze or a compression bra. This compression bra will need to be worn for the duration of your recovery in order to reduce swelling and support your new breast contour. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Dr. Prysi will give you specific post-operative instructions to follow so that you recover fully as quickly as possible and can get back to your full life.
