Your chin plays a significant role in your face’s proportions, and can magnify or minimize the appearance of your nose. Chin surgery, or genioplasty, can reduce a prominently sized or positioned chin, or enhance a weak chin. Depending on your unique facial anatomy and cosmetic goals, board-certified plastic surgeon Mark Prysi can either define your chin with the placement of an implant, or reduce its prominence by reshaping and sculpting the bone. Many patients rely on his artistic sensibilities and commitment to balance symmetry, beauty and harmony to the chin. Notable Naples plastic surgeon, Dr. Prysi is known for producing natural and beautiful plastic surgery results and was voted best plastic surgeon in Southwest Florida 7 years in a row.

You may be a candidate for chin surgery if you have a “weak,” recessed chin, or a protruding chin that sticks out prominently.
If you are considering chin surgery with Dr. Prysi, you should be in strong health with a normally functioning immune system. You should also have reasonable expectations before surgery. Dr. Prysi will review the procedure and what you can expect during a one-on-one chin surgery consultation at his Naples cosmetic surgery office.
Chin surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes several hours to complete. You will be given anesthesia and sedation medication to sleep comfortably throughout surgery.
If Dr. Prysi is correcting a weak or receding chin, he will place a synthetic implant. He begins by making an incision either in the natural crease underneath the chin or inside the mouth where the gum and lower lip meet. He gently stretches the tissues to make a pocket for the implant. Implants come in multiple sizes, shapes and materials; Dr. Prysi will select one depending on your needs. After inserting and positioning the implant, he closes the incision with sutures.
If Dr. Prysi is reducing the size of a prominent chin, he will begin by making incisions either in the mouth or underneath the chin. Through the incisions, he reduces and reshapes the bone into a more proportional size. Finally, Dr. Prysi closes the incisions with sutures and places a surgical bandage.
You will experience some swelling, bruising and tenderness after chin surgery, but these side effects will disappear within several weeks. Dr. Prysi will advise you to get as much rest as possible after surgery and avoid any strenuous activity. He will schedule several follow-up appointments to remove your sutures and check your healing process at his Naples, FL office. Dr. Prysi will also clear you to return to work and your normal activities, typically within a week or so after surgery. He makes himself available at all times during your recovery in case you have any questions or concerns.
