Tummy Tuck in Naples, FL

The midsection is notoriously hard to spot-tone. Thus, it makes sense that a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is one of the country’s most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures. Dr. Mark Prysi, a highly experienced and well-known Naples board-certified plastic surgeon, offers tummy tuck surgery. Schedule a consultation with him today to learn more about the tummy tuck and determine whether it can help you achieve your cosmetic goals.

What is a Tummy Tuck?

The tummy tuck, sometimes called abdominoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that tightens the underlying muscles of the abdomen and excises sagging skin around the midsection. The goal is to create a flatter, slimmer appearance to the stomach. It’s commonly combined with ultrasonic liposuction for more effective body contouring.

Am I a Candidate for Tummy Tuck?

If you have significant loose skin and fat in your abdominal area, consider tummy tuck surgery. Excess skin can be challenging to eliminate, preventing you from showing your body confidently. You should consider a tummy tuck if you are in strong physical and psychological health, do not plan on becoming pregnant, and have reasonable expectations for the surgery and its outcome. Dr. Prysi will meet with you one-on-one to discuss the tummy tuck in greater detail at his Naples office and to determine whether you are a good candidate for the surgery.

“Absolutely the best! Everyone is so kind and helpful. All questions and concerns addressed with no pressure to purchase any of their services or products. I can’t say enough good thing about Dr Prysi and his staff.”

“The doctor and staff were wonderful and very thorough. I felt very comfortable and confident in Dr. Prysi. The results were just as I wanted. I would highly recommend him.”

“I appreciate Dr. Prysi for his ability & helpful advice to me. His entire staff are very friendly and helpful. I enjoy coming to his office because I know he can & will help me.”

“Dr. Prysi has the best patient care and follow- up His staff if very professional, caring and knowledgable, as well as Dr. Prysi I would recommend and continue to go there for any procedure or maintenance I need. The office is also one of the most pleasant looking I have ever seen.”

Is the Tummy Tuck Right for Me?

The tummy tuck is ideal if you have experienced changes in your waistline after having children or losing significant weight. These changes can leave behind side effects like stretched skin and muscles and stubborn fat. The tummy tuck is the most effective way to get rid of these side effects and improve your confidence.

Types of Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck offers a few different techniques so Dr. Prysi can personalize your procedure to your needs.

Traditional Tummy Tuck

The traditional tummy tuck excises stretched skin and stubborn fat from the lower stomach while also tightening the underlying abdominal muscles. It’s a comprehensive option for patients with the above concerns.

Mini Tummy Tuck

The mini tummy tuck addresses stretched skin and stubborn fat in the lower stomach but does not tighten the abdominal muscles. It’s a less invasive option for patients who want a faster recovery time and who have less severe concerns.

Before Your Tummy Tuck Procedure

Dr. Prysi will give you detailed instructions on how to prepare your tummy tuck. You’ll need to undergo bloodwork so Dr. Prysi can determine if you’re at risk of complications, as well as check if you’re healthy enough to undergo surgery. You’ll sign paperwork and receive instructions on how to get ready for surgery. In the weeks and months leading up to surgery, it’s important to practice a healthy lifestyle, eat various foods, and get daily activity.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

A tummy tuck is an outpatient procedure that usually takes 3 hours. Anesthesia is administered so you will not feel any pain during surgery. Dr. Prysi begins by making a horizontal incision across your lower abdomen (just above the pubic area). Depending on your case, he may make an additional incision around your belly button. Through the incision, he reshapes the underlying tissue. Dr. Prysi may use liposuction to remove targeted fat deposits. He excises excess skin and re-drapes the remaining skin more tightly across the midsection. Finally, Dr. Prysi closes the incisions with sutures. He may place a support garment around the midsection to help the tissues form to their new contours.

After Your Tummy Tuck Procedure

A tummy tuck is performed as an outpatient procedure. Your incisions will be bandaged, and you may be required to wear a compression garment to reduce swelling. A tube is often temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid. You will feel sore and swollen after tummy tuck surgery. Dr. Prysi will prescribe oral pain medication to help with any discomfort. He will give you a comprehensive set of instructions to help you with recovery from surgery, and he will schedule several follow-up appointments so he can check your healing progress. In general, you should rest as much as possible and refrain from bending, lifting or straining for a few days following your procedure. When he is happy with your healing progress, Dr. Prysi will clear you to return to work, exercise, and your normal daily routine.

Within a week or two, you can begin to enjoy the results of your tummy tuck. You will notice a flatter, firmer abdominal region and a slimmer figure you can feel confident in. Scarring from the incisions will fade over the course of several months to a year but won’t disappear completely. It is important to maintain a consistent weight to ensure long-lasting results from your tummy tuck.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mini tummy tuck?

A mini tummy tuck is a procedure that addresses stubborn fat only below the belly button. It comes with a shorter recovery time and can be a good option for patients who don't need a full tummy tuck.

Do men get tummy tuck?

Men can absolutely receive a tummy tuck.

How many sizes do you lose with a tummy tuck?

A tummy tuck should not be considered a weight loss procedure. However, you can enjoy a slimmer waist after excess skin and fat are removed. Many patients lose between 2 and 3 pant sizes after a tummy tuck.

What should you avoid before a tummy tuck?

If you smoke, you should stop as soon as possible before your surgery. Additionally, stop taking anti-inflammatory medications as well as any supplements and herbal medications to reduce the risk of bleeding.

Is a tummy tuck permanent?

It's perfectly normal to have some fluctuation in the appearance of your stomach from factors like eating, bloating, and water retention. However, a tummy tuck will permanently remove any excess skin and fatty tissue that contribute to a rounded appearance.

Can you lift weight after surgery?

You should avoid lifting anything over 5 pounds until cleared by Dr. Prysi. Heavy lifting can put pressure on your incisions and impact your recovery.
