What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is done to increase the fullness of the breasts, as well as correct asymmetrical breasts, and improve the overall body contour. This procedure is done using breast implants, which are inserted into the breast pocket to create a fuller, more symmetrical breast.
Who is a Candidate?
Individuals who feel that their breasts are too small, or are unhappy with the loss of breast volume and shape following pregnancy or weight loss can often benefit from a breast augmentation. However, it is important that candidates are healthy, not be pregnant or breastfeeding, and have fully developed breasts. The best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is through a consultation with Dr. Prysi.
Breast augmentation can be done using saline or silicone breast implants. Saline implants are made with a silicone shell filled with a sterile saline solution. Silicone implants are made with a silicone shell filled with a silicone gel. There are also three incision patterns that can be used to perform a breast augmentation. These include:
The Periareolar Incision: Created around the nipple areola.
The Inframammary Incision: Created in the breast crease.
The Transaxillary Incision: Created in the armpit area.
The type of breast implant and incision will depend on your individual aesthetic goals, anatomy, and the surgeon’s recommendation.
Following breast augmentation, you will be wrapped in gauze or a compression bra. This compression bra will need to be worn for the duration of your recovery in order to reduce swelling and support your new breast contour. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Dr. Prysi will give you specific post-op instructions to follow to ensure a quick and easy recovery.
